Being an unknown author can be a struggle for many. We all deal with it when we first start off. Not many people know about us or our work, and many times we’re left wondering what to do to increase our presence. The good thing is that there are ways for you to grow your fan base, and eventually become known like authors whose books you see in Barnes and Nobles and are on the NY Times best sellers list. One thing that is important to know is that this isn’t going to happen over night. Of course there are those who blow up all of a sudden, but for the most part this will take time.

Always Make Content

Whether it’s a blog post, a short story, a chapter from your book; whatever it is you must always be writing (not literally, 24/7). Not only that, but also be posting it and showing it to people. If you want a loyal fan base, you must give them something first, and fans love consistency. So always be consistency with your content you post, and never fall off.

Submit to Magazines

Whether you want to go with self publishing or traditional publishing, it helps to also submit your work to magazines. This is a good way to boost your audience if your work is accepted. Regardless of what kind of genre you write in: scifi, romance, Y/A; there are all kinds of avenues for those genres, so research and submit.

Do More Than Writing

Of course you love writing fiction, and its a big interest to you, nevertheless it is always good to have more than just 1 field you work in. With so many writers out there, the goal is to separate yourself from the rest of the crowd. The best way to do that is to do what they’re not, and that’s purse content creating in other fields. Start a Youtube channel where you post audio recordings of your works or review books, submit opinion pieces to newspapers major and local, join a book club; you want to do more than just writing for eventually it’ll bring in a broader fan base into your writing.
